Cat 5 cables, also known as Cat 5 Ethernet Cable & Category 5 Ethernet Cable, is a type of twisted-pair cable that is commonly used for Ethernet network connections. It is an older standard compared to newer versions such as Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 6a, but it can still support data transmission speeds of up to 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps).

What is Cat 5 Cable?

Cat 5 cables consist of four pairs of twisted copper wires within a single cable jacket. The twisting of the wire pairs helps to reduce interference and crosstalk between the wires, allowing for reliable data transmission. These cables typically use an 8P8C (eight-position, eight-contact) modular connector, often referred to as an RJ-45 connector. It looks similar to a telephone connector, but it has more contacts.
